Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based faith formation method intended for children ages 3-12. This approach recognizes the personal connection between God and each child, inviting them to explore and deepen their understanding of their faith and their relationship with God through prayer, scripture, and liturgy. A space called the atrium is created for students to learn more about their faith and their relationship with God. This fall, we will be offering this program to 3-5 year olds and Kindergartners of the parish from September to April. Classes are capped at 8 students.
Discounts are available for parents willing to be trained and teach for this program. Contact Melissa Tucker if you would like more information.

Having never been a teacher, how do I learn to teach?
Your CRE will assist you. In-services are provided several times a year that deal with effective teaching techniques as well as growing in your faith.
Who will assist me with lesson plans?
The teaching guides are designed for the non-professional teacher. They are user friendly and have a multitude of ideas on how to prepare and present lessons.
Without a background in theology, how am I able to pass on the faith?
The role of catechists is not based on a professional background in theology, rather, the ability to share faith, live faith, and journey with young people as their faith develops and matures.
What if I don’t know the answers to the questions young people ask?
It is perfectly okay to say “I don’t know, but I will find out.” Resources are available through your CRE and the Archdiocese. You will learn together with young people.
Please contact the parish’s Coordinator of Youth Faith Formation, Melissa Tucker, at (563) 556-7511 or dbq058ff2@dbqarch.org for more information on how you can give of your time and talent.
