Initiation Into the Catholic Faith

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the normal way in which previously unbaptized adults and children beyond the age of eight who have an interest in the Catholic faith can learn more about it, become familiar with the parish community, and grow in their own spiritual journeys.  The process offers help with prayer, introduces people to the presence of God in their lives, and gives information about Catholic rituals, teachings, and sacramental life.  This process usually climaxes with the celebration of the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday night.  Groups meet on Thursday nights at the parish offices.

Persons who are baptized and catechized in another faith are welcomed into a more brief process by which they can learn about Catholic rituals and sacramental life, Catholic traditions, and teachings.  This process climaxes with a profession of faith in the Catholic church, which occurs when the individual is ready.  This process can involve the meetings on Thursday nights or can be done on a more individualized basis.

Persons in either situation are welcome to come to inquiry sessions at which your common questions and concerns can be addressed.  These sessions give some basis for each person to decide whether s/he wants to proceed to one of the processes described above.

For more information or to enroll in either process, please contact Sister Francine at 556-7511 or at dbq058s@arch.pvt.k12.ia.us
