April 5 - GREEN LENTEN FASTING
As we continue our Lenten fast this week, here are some food-use ideas from our purple Lenten calendar (Mustard Seed)
• Prepare two meals a day using no energy (cereal, fruit, cheese, raw veggies, etc.)
• Skip one meal today and donate the money that would have been spent to charity.
• Place food donations in St. Vincent de Paul baskets in church entrances
• Shop at the Winter’s Farmer Market.
• Commit to planting a (fruit) tree in your backyard this spring.
April 19 - GOOD NEWS FOR EARTH DAY: YOUTH MINISTRY
• Last month, Youth Ministry did its part to care for the earth at a parish waffel breakfast by using the parish's new china plates, along with china mugs, reusable glasses and "real" silverware. Serving over 300, the youth mission team put the dishwasher to good use using reusables, with only napkins, placemats and food scraps as disposables. Soon, Res will also be on the city's food waste subscription (Green Carts), so even throw-aways (napkins, food scraps, etc.) will be compostable.
• Cool Confirmands: Last Wednesday evening, the Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) and the Youth Leadership Team featured a green component at Confirmation Activity night. Youth "green teams" challenged each other to roll plastic bottles into yellow recycling bins. ESC also staffed an information table, complete with giveaways, climate change petitions and other green info.
• Thanks to youth, greening is growing at Resurection.
